Russell Square-Perth's Park of Signs

Russell Square-Perth's Park of Signs

Russell Square is one of Perth’s oldest parks with a history that predates colonial settlement and is cherished as Northbridge’s only green space.  To inform the City of Perth’s future vision for the park, it was important to understand the cultural significance it holds to Noongar stakeholders and the broader community.  The City engaged Urbis to undertake an Aboriginal Heritage Survey and Cultural Heritage Assessment - what it revealed was the diverse values and, at times, dark history of the park, and its connection to Perth’s waves of immigration.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Marc Beattie is Director of Heritage at Urbis and specialises in managing the evolution of our historic environment. He is involved in all stages of project delivery from initial feasibility studies, heritage design development, preparation of appropriate heritage reports and documentation, authority liaison, and heritage conservation services during construction.
