Christmas Celebration

18th December 11 am – 2 pm: Annual Christmas Lunch at the Bayswater Rail Museum and the nearby Bassendean Hotel for lunch.

Please reply to this email to confirm your attendance.

The Rail Museum has been at Bassendean since 1969 and between the Museum, the workshop at the rear of the museum and its subsidiary museum at Boyanup holds 24 steam locomotives, 14 diesel locomotives and railcars and a similar amount of rolling stock, consisting of numerous passenger carriages (including two sets of vice regal carriages) and freight wagons.

Of this collection, much can be climbed on or walked through at Bassendean and the museum has four operational locomotives, the 1889 G class (G233) Leschenault Lady, the 1947 S Class (S 547) Greenmount and the two 1955 XA class diesels (XA1402) Targari and (XA1405) Warienga. A number of other (approx. 15) are in various stages of restoration in the workshop area at the rear of the museum.

One of the most recently restored and currently on display is the oldest preserved main line electric locomotive in Australia – the 100 year old SEC1. It operated until 1969 on the 600m,  600V DC line which ran from East Perth Marshalling yards to the Power Station delivering coal to the station.
